Docent Tours

Getting Around: Transportation in the Palmetto State
(Grades 1-8) From a replica of the “Best Friend of Charleston” to a Lowcountry canoe to a 1904 Oldsmobile and a 1915 Model-T Ford, students will learn about “getting around.”

Inside the Atom
(Grades 5, 7) Explore principles of chemistry in the fun, educational atmosphere of the Science Theatre.

Light and Lasers
(Grades 4, 6, 8, 9-12) While in the Science Theatre, students will be introduced to laser technology, see how lasers work and learn how lasers impact our lives.

Optical Illusions
(Grade 4, 9-12) Through a series of images that may be deceptive, students will learn that seeing is not always believing. Science Theatre.

Take Charge: Electricity
(Grades 4, 6, 9-12) Learn about the origins of electricity and discover how it improves our lives. Students also will have a few (safe) hair-raising experiences in Science Theatre.

The Solar System
(Grade 4 and 8) Students will “explore” the solar system through computer images and interactive activities. Science Theatre.

The Wonderful Sky
(Grades K4-1, 30 minutes) Young students will be introduced to the sun, moon and planets through live demonstrations and hands-on activities in the Science Theatre.

Science-Technology Tour
(Grades K5-12; up to 60 students and adults) What is gravity? How is a dugout canoe made? What did astronauts find on the moon? Discover the answers to these questions and many others during this tour.
